In a nutshell, if you have a computer, you can
help:
And all this is done without you having to lift
a finger - your computer does all the hard work. More to the
point, it only does so using unused processing cycles. In other
words, when your computer is doing nothing (which believe it or
not is most of the time), these CPU cycles will be used to
perform calculations, which as part of the World Community Grid
team in general and the JointWinWin team in particular, to
perform humanitarian research on behalf of us all.
If you have a PC and are familiar with the
Windows Task Manager, you may see a screen like this:

This is just a quick snapshot of some of the
processes running (86 above are running at the same time) on my
machine. The interesting one to note is the "System Idle
Process". This is not really a process as such and it's name is
confusing. What it is telling you in the above screenshot is
that even though I have 86 processes running on my machine (my
World Community Client is suspended so I can demonstrate this
to you btw), my machine is doing nothing 98% of the time!
It's incredible to think how many PCs out there are sitting
idling away when they could be harnessed for the good of
humanity.
